Dear OBC Family
Seasonal greetings to you all in the all-sufficient name of Jesus, our Emmanuel! My brothers and sisters, my family and I feel honoured and privileged to belong to and serve the OBC community, under the Chief-Shepherd, Jesus Christ.
Since Jesus is the reason for this season, we, like the wise-men of old, must diligently seek Him. Whether you are travelling or staying at home, please do not allow consumerism, commercialism and materialism to confuse the meaning of Christmas. Christmas is not about Christmas cards, Christmas trees, credit cards, or carols; decorations, family, festivities and food; holidays; parties and presents. Christmas is only about God fulfilling His promises, saving His people, coming to us — as one of us — in Jesus – to make us – one with Himself (John 1:1-14).
Although God holds together and sustains the immense universe of orbiting stars, galaxies and planets, He stooped down through Christmas to tell us that He is with us and that He loves us (John 3:16).
As we celebrate the Christ of Christmas this year, let us also focus on the coming New Year, and join the angels in proclaiming the simple yet profound Christmas message: “For to you this day a Savior is born!” (Luke 2:11).
1. It is a message of FAITH, NOT FEAR. “Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favour with God” (Luke 1:30; cf. Matt. 1:20; Luke 2:10).
2. It is a message of GREAT JOY TO ALL PEOPLE. “For behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people” (Luke 2:10).
3. It is a message of PEACE AND GOODWILL. “On earth peace, goodwill toward men” (Luke 2:14).
4. It is a message to SHARE. “When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child” (Luke 2:17).
May you all have a joyful Christmas and a wonderful New Year of serving the Lord, “Being careful how we build” (1 Corinthians 3:9c)!
