This year we continue with the theme of building, but emphasising on “Take Care How You Build”(1 Cor. 3:10c). God is calling each one of us as members and attendees of OBC to be careful how each one of us plays their part in the work of God here.
1. “For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (3:11). How we build must align with Christ Jesus who controls the shape and quality of His Church. Every work that lifts up Christ in His true greatness will be gold and silver and precious stone. Every work that detracts from Christ’s preeminence will be wood, hay, and stubble.
2. We are warned against careless building, otherwise there will be hurt and shame upon the church, loss of individual rewards and possible destruction of the church and people (3:12, 14, 17).
3. May the Lord help us this year and beyond to:
a. Fight and resist every human tendency to replace Christ as the one and only foundation of Open Baptist Church. He alone is Lord of His Church and is worthy of worship! Let us worship Him alone!
b. Prioritize building up people, individuals, couples and families into a true community of faith. God is relational, so is His business, the Church.
c. Work hard to make sure that the building blocks of our ministries, attitudes, and actions follow the blueprint of our foundation and not go off on a tangent.
d. Make sure that all our ministry objectives, building plans and financial goals are executed with excellence as unto the LORD and not unto man (Col. 3:23-24).
e. Serve “Together In Christ, to the world”, with excellence, seen not only in the gold, silver and precious stones of our physical structures, but also of our ministries, attitudes, actions, and in our stewardship of time, talents and treasure (Eph. 5:15-17).
“Take Care How You Build” is a call to excellence and faithfulness in all our work for the Lord. If we all make this our attitude, God will take us as a Church to a greater and higher level of blessing to the nation and the world.
